Exposure
The first time I remember hearing In Rainbows in its entirety was when A. played it on one of our many road trips to deliver a classic car to a buyer in California. Before then, I’d only known “Creep” and maybe “Karma Police,” the big tracks that, though great songs in their own right, didn’t inspire me to dig any deeper into the band. That was my mistake.
This is one of the few albums I can really enjoy from first track to last (and over and over again) on any day and in almost any mood. It’s not so demanding that you can’t have it playing in the background—in fact, I love listening to it when I’m writing or drawing—but it still has plenty to offer if you have time to give it your full attention. It’s lyrically sophisticated, emotionally driven, and still feels new almost 15 years after its initial release.
